Warmly welcoming Mr. Yoshida Kenji, Chairman Nguyen Trung Khanh congratulated him become new Head of JNTO representative office in Vietnam. He highly appreciated JNTO’s contribution in tourism promotion between Japan and Vietnam, enhancing visitor exchanges between two countries.

He also shared that before the Covid-19 pandemic outbreak, in 2019, Vietnam's tourism grew strongly, in which the number of exchange visitors between the two sides reached 1.5 million arrivals, setting a target that the number of exchange visitors in 2020 will reach about 2 million arrivals. However, the number of international visitors has dropped sharply due to the pandemic.

He emphasized that the pandemic has been being controlled, and socio-economic activities are gradually being restored. The Government of Vietnam issued policies to pandemic prevention and economic development, in which tourism is one of the priority industries for recovery.

VNAT proposed Ministry of Culture, Sports and Tourism the tourism recovery plan, focusing on safety assurance, building new products, promotion and communication, applying digital transformation, supporting businesses and employees, and training tourism workers.

In particular, VNAT has also proposed Ministry of Culture, Sports and Tourism a pilot plan to reopen for international visitors at some major tourist centers of Vietnam with a safe environment for tourists and high vaccine coverage. Vietnam tourism prioritizes welcoming visitors from markets such as Northeast Asia, Western Europe, Russia, the United States, Australia, etc. Japan is also one of the top priority markets of Vietnam tourism.

VNAT also built a communication program to promote and inform about the pilot plan through embassies, social networks and major media agencies. JNTO in Vietnam will be an important partner in promoting Vietnam safe travel to Japanese tourists.
